This page is maintained by the Yap team to explain what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Yap is a private-pilot language-learning chat app.

What we collect

Account info: email, display name, username, and password (hashed).
Profile settings: your native and target languages, mix intensity.
Content you create: messages, posts, comments, and images you upload.
Learning data: attempts, corrections, quiz results, streaks, and cached translations used to power the app.
Basic technical data: cookies/local storage for your session and preferences.

How we use it

To run the service — sign you in, deliver messages, show your feed.
To power language features — your messages are sent to AI models to generate translations, corrections, and quizzes tailored to your target language.
To improve reliability and fix bugs.

Subprocessors

We rely on a small set of trusted providers to operate Yap:

Lovable Cloud (hosting, database, authentication, file storage).
Lovable AI Gateway (routing requests to language models such as Google Gemini).

These providers process data on our behalf under their own agreements.

Cookies and local storage

We use essential cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in, remember your preferences (like mix intensity and theme), and cache translations so the app feels fast. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. Messages, posts, and comments are visible to the people you send or share them with, following the app's normal visibility rules (e.g. posts on your profile are visible to signed-in Yap users; the public feed shows public posts).

Retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can request account deletion by contacting us; we will remove your account and associated content within a reasonable period, except where we need to retain limited records for legal or security reasons.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Contact us to make a request.

Children

Yap is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country). Please do not use the service if you are below that age.

Changes

We may update this policy as Yap evolves. Material changes will be surfaced in the app.
